USI
Unique Student Identifier (USI)
A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is a Government reference number that conveniently keeps track of all your training records and results.
The importance of a USI
Your Unique Student Identifier (USI) is your individual education number for life. It also creates a Government authenticated record of your Australian Vocational Education and Training (VET) achievements. For this reason, it’s important your USI is in your legal name.
You need a USI if you are:
- a student studying a nationally recognised VET course
- seeking a VET student loan
- a higher education student seeking a HELP loan or Commonwealth Supported Place, or
- a higher education student graduating.
Create your USI
If you don’t have a USI, you can create one by visiting the USI website. You can also create a USI during your enrolment or application.

Finding your USI
If you can’t remember your USI, you can search for it by visiting the USI website.

Using your USI
It is important to use the same USI when you enrol or apply for a course anywhere in Australia and at TAFE NSW. This means that all your educational records will be stored accurately in your USI account.
